The 2017 North Dakota Human Rights Arts Festival will be exhibited November 13, 2017 through January 5, 2018 at the Spirit Room in Fargo, North Dakota. A public reception and awards ceremony will be held at The Spirit Room on Saturday, November 18, 2017.
An exploration of human rights as defined by the Universal Declaration of Human Rights , the Geneva Conventions and additional Protocols and other similar declarations and treaties such as the Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples, the North Dakota Human Rights Arts Festival seeks to educate, engage and facilitate discussion around local and world-wide human rights topics through the work of artist in all mediums.
The arts festival and exhibition is accepting submissions for all mediums of 2D, 3D and live performance artistic works. Works submitted will be eligible for a juried competition. All artist who have works that relate to the discussion of human rights or social justice are invited to submit to the festival.
All works related to the discussion of human rights will be considered. As part of the 2017 festival, an intentional discussion will be held around the rights of refugee and immigrant populations, and the rights of indigenous peoples. Join us as we explore the histories, themes, challenges, obstructions and successes of individuals from around the world and within the United States.
JURIED COMPETITION
Each category within the festival will host a juried competition for “Best of…”. Additionally, an executive committee will award a “Best of Show” award annually to recognize a work with high artistic and informational value. Additional awards may be given within each category at the judgment of the jury (i.e. best photography work, ceramics work, etc.).
Award winning artist will receive a physical award and small stipend to help with travel to the festival.
DEADLINES FOR SUBMISSIONS
The deadline for entering work into the human rights exhibition is listed below. Works in progress are accepted, and due to limited space we encourage you to submit your prospectus and intent to submit as early as possible. The deadline for participating in the arts festival is:
- November 3, 2017 – Final date for submission to the art festival ($25)
Artist can submit their work in two ways: 1) Via the web at the registration page; 2) Via email by downloading and printing the 2017 Prospectus and emailing the completed form and materials to submissions@ndhrff.org.
